HOFNER PRESIDENT THINLINE. 1965

My favourite version of
Hofner's long-running President! |

 |

Stunning! |

From this angle, the
flamed Maple is at its most vibrant. |

Very little little wear! |
It should read 5125/15.
'05 is the full body |

Not bad for a 45 year
old! |

Within minutes of
winning #067 on eBay, I was offered this one out of
the blue. I went to see it and was
stunned by its originality and its like new condition.
A real time warp guitar!
In 1965, Hofner
followed Gibson and changed all their archtops to the
Florentine cutaway except for the Committee
(again, as with Gibson and the Super 400).
In my opinion, it
was at this point that Hofner achieved the pinnacle of the
President's long life. The combination of Florentine
cutaway for
easy access, coupled with 511 Staple pickups for response,
and 3 rotary controls ( 1 Master Volume and 2 Tone) and the use of the Micromatic
Bridge made for a very playable guitar.
The Thinline version in this configuration
always reminds me of an ES 225.
This lovely, period
President, is virtually Mint and I think it is fair to describe
it as outstanding. It plays
as well as it looks!!
