1. Making
good! |
| |
|
|
| |
 |
I have carefully
re-shaped the neck to allow the fitting of a
Shadow AZ pickup.
Inspired by the very
neat shaping on my '65 Gibson Byrdland, I have created a
flared nacelle either side of the neck to allow the pickup
arms to it flush with the fingerboard.
Refinished with
nitro- cellulose it could have always been this way! |
| |
| |
Trial fitting.
The pickup sits neatly beneath the fingerboard.
Maybe just one more coat of cellulose is needed and a good
polish before I finally fit the AZ . |

 |
| |
Yep, that looks
right now!! |

The Rosewood pickguard
needed refitting to the AZ and its mounting bracket had to
be re-positioned. The pickguard still
shows no visible means of support (no ugly brackets) and it
rises and falls with the bridge, keeping its relationship to
the strings at a constant height. Nice! |

2.
Developing the guitar! |
| |
|
| |
The Jazz Café was
conceived as an acoustic jazz archtop. Now
that I have corrected the damage inflicted on it when its
second owner decided to fit a pickup, I can develop it in
the way I would have done had I designed it to be electric
in the first place.
I shall add a Schatten thumbwheel volume control
hidden beneath the pickguard and Fishman
endpin jack. Then its ready!!!!
These AZ pickups are
so rich and mellow, I don't want t add a Tone control.
I prefer to let the pickup speak for itself and set up my
Amp for any small tonal adjustments. |
